HanesBrands recognized during 50th anniversary of free zone industry

President Danilo Medina recognized HanesBrands for its contributions to industry in the Dominican Republic. The recognition came on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the export free zone industry model operation in the Dominican Republic. Gulf & Western Industries was first to implant the model in La Romana.

The Presidency recognized Hanes as the best employer, most socially responsible company, taxpayer, and for its consistent growth in exports.

The company manufactures in the Dominican Republic around 80% of the 250 million t-shirt units it sells globally. It has manufacturing centers in Las Americas and San Isidro free zones in the National District. It has been operating for 46 years and employs around 8,000 persons.

HanesBrands Caribe operations vice president Ricardo Pérez and Javier Chacón, chief executive for global manufacturing received the recognition from President Danilo Medina.

During the event held at the Cariátides Hall of the Presidential Palace, President Medina delivered recognitions to 88 free zone companies for their leadership, innovation, development, corporate social responsibility, hard currency generation, logistics services, among others.
