Rains to slow, but many provinces still under alert

The showers will continue across the country as it remains under the influence of a weather front. The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) has extended the alert against flooding and mudslides as well as overflowing rivers. Onamet forecasts the sun will again be shining regularly by Thursday.

In the meantime, the Center for Emergency Operations increased to 23 the number of provinces under rain and flooding alert. The impact of the rains is widespread. 10 aqueducts are out of service due to the rains, affecting around a quarter of a million users.

Under yellow alert provinces are La Vega, Santiago and San Juan de la Maguana. Under green alert are San Cristóbal, Santiago Rodríguez, Espaillat, Dajabón, Hermanas Mirabal, Valverde, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), Barahona, Santo Domingo, Hato Mayor, Puerto Plata, La Altagracia, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), Samaná, Monte Plata, María Trinidad Sánchez, Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí), San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana, El Seib and the National District.
