On Monday, 11 November, dozens of psychologists protested outside the Ministry of Education, complaining about what they called an abuse on the part of the authorities. They claim that they were offered posts within schools by the Ministry. Ater they resigned ffrom their positions to work at the schools, they have not been placed on the payroll for over two months. Now the Ministry claims there are no posts available due to an alleged ‘over population’ of teachers. This has left the psychologists without work and no means to support their families.
Jairo Mercedes, president of the Dominican College of Psychologists (CODOPSI), said that if there were no vacancies, then why were they called to apply and why were those who passed the application process offered jobs?
