President Danilo Medina and PLD presidential candidate Gonzalo Castillo were present for the swearing-in of the municipal candidates in La Vega province. For the occasion, Castillo forecast that after the victory of the party in the February 2020 municipal elections, the party will also win the May 2020 congressional and presidential election. “We will govern for four more years to continue building the dream country that we all want, where all have the job they want depending on their preparation, dedication and effort,” he stated. “And when I tell you we will continue building our dream country, it is because for the past seven years this man who is here, President Danilo Medina, has been building the country that Dominicans dream about,” said the ruling party presidential candidate.
Medina’s open campaigning is controversial. Indeed, into the past 6 October primary of the party, the entire cabinet of his government openly campaigned. The Ministry of Public Administration argued that they were campaigning after hours. The electoral rules impede government officers from campaigning.
