Barahona to get a modern heliport

The director of the Airport Department, Marino Collante, announced the government will build a modern heliport in Barahona on the city’s sea-fronting boardwalk, the Malecón. He said Grupo Orbe won a contract for RD$15.9 million for the construction. He said the heliport would be good for the tourism development in the province and all the south, for business activities and for emergency services.

The Maria Montez International Airport is located at the entrance to Barahona city, not far from the Malecon site chosen for the new heliport. International flights rarely land at that airport, the least used in the country.
