Witnesses of the fatal bus accident on the Samaná Northeast Expressway (Autopista Juan Pablo II), in which over two dozen persons persons were injured and one died on Thursday, 21 November 2019, told Listin Diario reporters and the authorities that a reckless motorcyclist had crossed in front of the bus. As the driver tried to avoid hitting the motorcycle, the bus slid sideways, barely missing the guardrail and hit a solid mound of limestone rock.
26-year old Cesar Alberto Encarnación, who was the driver’s assistant, died at the hospital. Others are severely injured. Some 23 persons were taken to the Dario Contreras Trauma Hospital in East Santo Domingo, many by helicopter.
