Political parties get two more days to submit municipal candidacies

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) extended the deadline for submitting municipal candidacies to Friday, 6 December 2019 at 6pm. The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and nine other opposition parties had asked the Central Electoral Board (JCE) for a 48-hour extension of the 3 December 2019 deadline to submit their candidates for municipal positions.

The parties said that the complexity of the municipal electoral process had impeded them submitting on time. The request for an extension was made last Friday, 29 November, according to the PRM delegate for the JCE, Orlando Jorge Mera.

Other political parties requesting the extension were the Reformist Party (PRSC), the Dominican Workers Party (PTD-Fuerza del Pueblo), Democratic Christian Quisqueyano . (PQDC), Institutional Social Democratic Block (BIS), National Unity (PUN), National Progressive Force (FNP), Dominicans for Change (DxC), the Popular Front and the Dominican Humanist Party (PHD).

The municipal elections are scheduled for 16 February 2020.
