Yesterday, Monday 9 December, the Dominican Workers’ Party (PTD) presented at the Central Electoral Board (JCE) their new logo and flag, along with the change of name to the Force of the People. Force of the People, led by former President Leonel Fernandez, presented a green flag with the initials FP and a cayenne pepper flower. The green is the same color as the PTD, and the same flower, although the flower is in a different format.
The change of name is opposed by several political parties, including the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), who say that Gilberto Serulle, the former mayor of Santiago, used the slogan “With the Force of the People,” in the 2010 election, and that he is running again this year.
In addition, the Socialist Green Party (Pasove) objects the use of the green color that they say is theirs. The Force of the People delegates argue they are using a different shade of green.
