Embassy of Germany invites local artists to design setting for donated piece of the Berlin Wall

The Embassy of Germany in the Dominican Republic has launched a competition open to artists resident in the Dominican Republic for an original artwork that integrates the piece of the Berlin Wall that Germany has donated to the Dominican Republic. The conception is that the artwork be an authentic symbol that reflects the victory of freedom, democracy and human rights.

Proposals should be sent to the German Embassy in Santo Domingo by 20 February 2020. The awards are RD$150,000, RD$75,000 and RD$25,000 for the three winners.

The name of the designer will be engraved on a plaque on the wall where the artwork will be exhibited. The winning artist will have two months to produce the piece integrating the Berlin Wall piece. The artist will receive an additional RD$50,000 to carry out the artwork.

The artwork must be executed in the warehouse in Santo Domingo where the piece is located, due to its size and weight (the height is 3.60 meters, the width of 1.20 cm. Its thickness, between 10 and 20 cm, has a base of 2.10m and its weight is 2.6 tons).
