With events scheduled for Saturday, 14 December and Sunday, 15 December 2019, the two leading political parties, the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) celebrated caravans along the same route in the National District in support of their National District candidates and presidential candidates.
The ruling PLD caravan was held with the theme of celebrating the 46th anniversary of the political party. Propaganda published on the event by the PLD spoke exclusively of Gonzalo Castillo, the PLD presidential candidate and did not mention National District candidate Domingo Contreras. President Danilo Medina, Gonzalo Castillo and Foreign Relations Minister Miguel Vargas Maldonado motivated the PLD crowds.
Nevertheless, the party made official the Greater Santo Domingo candidacies of Domingo Contreras for the National District, Luis Alberto Tejada for Santo Domingo East; Francisco Peña for Santo Domingo West; Junior Santos for Los Alcarrizos and Carlos Guzmán for Santo Domingo North.
In turn, the coverage of the PRM event focused on the support of presidential candidate Luis Abinader to the National District candidate for mayor, Carolina Mejía, and for senator, Faride Raful.
The caravans are the closing activity for the political parties that are expected to break for the Christmas holidays.
Altagracia Salazar in her Sin Maquillaje talk show on 16 December 2019 said that participation in caravans is not significant. She remarked that it depends on who has the budget (RD$300 + fried chicken meal) to mobilize the people to fill the spaces.
