Find out what motivates famous artists to opt for Dominican citizenship

A report in N Digital looks into the reasons the rich and famous are opting for Dominican citizenship. Entertainment businessman Amable Valenzuela explains that the leading singers are attracted by the climate of security, the stability of the country and many seek to protect their investments.

In recent years, singers Julio Iglesias, Ricardo Montaner, Danny Rivera, Diego El Cigala, Gilberto Santa Rosa have sought to become Dominican citizens. By doing so, they no longer need to share the proceeds of their shows with a Dominican counterpart. But Valenzuela says this is not the main reason. He says that the artists mainly become Dominican “out of love for this land.”

Many of the artists have invested heavily in the country, primarily in vacation property. For instance, Julio Iglesias has many investments in Punta Cana and La Romana.

Montaner is now a Dominican, Venezuelan, Argentine and Colombian national. He has investments in Samaná.

Diego El Cigala was reported to have settled in Casa de Campo, La Romana.

Puerto Ricans Gilberto Santa Rosa and Danny Rivera are not based in the country, but frequently perform here.
