Colombian accused of stealing from daughter of Defense Minister

National District Judge Jose Alejandro Vargas imposed three months of preventive detention against Colombian Andrés Camilo Góngora Céspedes, who is accused together with an unnamed person of assaulting the daughter of the Minister of Defense, Rubén Darío Paulino Sem. The arrested man was ordered to serve the pre-trial custody in the La Victoria jail.

As reported by Police spokesman, Frank Félix Durán Mejía, on a radio talk show, the Defense Minister’s daughter had withdrawn the cash from a bank on Av. Rómulo Betancourt and was on her way to pay tuition. According to the Police report, she was followed after leaving the bank. The assailant broke the glass of her car to steal the RD$193,000 in cash she had with her.

The second person has not been identified. The Police says he is another foreigner.

Hard lesson learned: transfer the cash. Or use the facilities of shopping centers where several banks are located one beside the other.
