The Third Collegiate Court of the National District unanimously dismissed the charges against former director of the National Institute of Water Resources (Indrhi), Hector Rodriguez Pimentel, and six other people, who were accused by the Public Ministry of embezzlement of RD$1.5 billion and US$56,479,038.41 from that institution.
As reported from a press release sent to local media, the Attorney General Office prosecutors did not present sufficient evidence to incriminate Rodriguez Pimentel and the six others charged in the case.
The court determined that the evidence provided by the Public Prosecutor’s Office was unfounded and lacked a legal basis. The six others included in the case are Príamo Méndez Cuesta, Manuel De La Cruz Martínez, José Antonio Pérez Jiménez, Fior D’ Aliza del Carmen Ares Salazar, Víctor Hugo Batista Linares and Teodoro Ruiz.
The trial had lasted nine years and concluded on Friday, 20 December 2019.
