Diario Libre journalist Marvin del Cid presents a video showing the population of manatees in Samaná province. The northern shores of Samaná are good for manatees because of the many offshore reefs that reduce wave action and also contribute to a very reduced flow of boats of all sorts through the area.
There is a manatee sanctuary in Estero Hondo in northwestern Montecristi province.
