Golfing world loses Pete Dye

At 94 years old Pete Dye has left this world to play the “course in the sky,” where only the best can play. Dye passed away late last week in La Romana, at the Central Medical Center, where he was undergoing treatment for health issues related to his age.

Pete Dye is best known for launching La Romana as a golf destination with his construction of the Teeth of the Dog golf course in Casa de Campo.

In a press release, La Romana Corporation expresses sympathies. “His name and his legacy will be tied to us forever. It was here that he was “at home” and it was here that he designed and built 90 holes of golf, the largest number of golf courses at any single destination in the world.”

Dye became a household name in golf with the creation of the “Teeth of the Dog” championship golf course in Casa de Campo. Together with his wife, Alice, he developed a career of designing golf courses that spanned over 60 years. They were legendary figures in the world of golf. He also built many of the courses around the world, such as Whistling Straits in the United States and more than 100 other courses.

His wife Alice had passed away early in 2019. His two sons, P.B. and Perry Dye carry on the family business.

Few people know that Dye was also the builder of the Las Aromas course in Santiago.
