
The Dominican government “Inter-Institutional Commission for the Destruction of Firearms,” composed of the Ministry of the Interior and Police (MIP), the Ministry of Defense (MIDE) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), signed a collaboration agreement with Gerdau Metaldom for the free destruction of confiscated, surplus or obsolete firearms.
The main purpose of signing the agreement is to guarantee the adequate destruction of these weapons, to ensure that they can never be used again for shooting and that this process does not involve risks for the personnel involved, the general population and the environment.
The activity was led by ministers José Ramón Fadul, of the Ministry of Interior and Police; Lieutenant General Rubén Darío Paulino Sem, of the Ministry of Defense; Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez, of the Public Prosecutor’s Office; and Jefferson Marko, CEO of Gerdau Metaldom.
Gerdau Metaldom is the leading company in the Dominican Republic in the manufacture of finished steel products.
