Duvergé, in Deep South, starts vegetable exports to US

The Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) has announced that small farmers in the area of Duvergé in the border province of Independencia have begun exporting vegetables to the United States. According to the government land reform agency, the project denominated AC-584, also known as El Espartillar, is exporting jalapeño peppers, zucchini, melons, watermelons, okra and cucumbers to markets in the US.

One company established in the area indicated that they are preparing 1,200 boxes of 40 pounds each for shipment every two days via Santo Domingo or Puerto Plata. According to the press release from the IAD, 75 new jobs were created in El Espartillar and another 130 in the Las Baitoas project nearby.
