
The Constitutional Court (TC) confirmed that city governments are obliged to make severance payments for unjustified firings. The TC rejected a motion to the contrary submitted by the Dominican Municipal Federation. The Federation had disputed Article 138 of Decree 523-09 that approved the ruling for labor relations in the public administration, dated 21 July 2009. The ruling calls for paying severance to government officers that are not already incorporated in the public administration career or a special career.
