Congress named Milagros Corniel Camacho to replace her daughter, Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) deputy Karen Lisbeth Ricardo Corniel. Ricardo had been appointed to replace Domingo Contreras as director of Special Programs of the Presidency. Contreras is running for National District mayor for the PLD.
Ricardo had previously aspired to be the PLD candidate for Santo Domingo East, but lost to Luis Alberto Tejeda Pimentel.
An editorial in Diario Libre criticizes the nepotism that prevailed in the appointment of Ricardo’s mom to the seat. The nomination received the unanimous vote of the legislators.
