Teenage pregnancies especially high in Miches and Tamayo

Catalina Encarnación, of the World Vision global Christian humanitarian organization, reveals that 72.8% of the teenagers in Miches and 69.3% in Tamayo have been victims of some type of abusive relation or have suffered from sexual exploitation. As reported in El Dia, World Vision reports that in these two municipalities the rate of teen pregnancies is the highest in the Dominican Republic.

With 95,883 households where teenagers 12 to 18 years live, 10.9% of girls in Miches and 9.5% in Tamayo have been or are pregnant. For the report, 3,200 teenagers nationwide were surveyed. 51% said they had suffered abusive relationship or sexual abuse. World Vision reported that in Miches 42.7% of those surveyed are single parent homes mainly lead by women.

Miches is located in eastern El Seibo province, and Tamayo in southwestern Bahoruco province.
