Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) deputy and candidate to senator for the National District Faride Raful says that the opposition is hard pressed to carry out another month of campaigning and a repeat of election day efforts.
“You know what it means for us as a political opposition that a process be stopped and we have to find the economic resources to go to another election, which by the way yesterday the Board announced that it is 15 March without consulting the political parties that are participating in that process,” said the deputy when interviewed for El Sol de la Mañana talk show on Tuesday, 18 February 2020.
The congresswoman said that the suspension of the municipal elections only benefits the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) because it controls all the resources of the state.
Furthermore, she said the PLD controls all government branches, which is why it is unlikely they will carry out an independent investigation into the reasons for the collapse of the municipal election. “All the institutional channels are controlled and hijacked by the PLD, which prevents democracy from taking its course,” she added.
