The cycling community in the Dominican Republic has organized the Grand Prix 2020. The competition has cash prize of RD$114,000 to be paid out to participants in the categories Elite, Master A (30-39), Master B (40-49), Master C (50+), Youth (17 and 18), Women, Recreational (no cash award).
The event will be a warm-up to the Vuelta Independencia Cycling Tour that starts on 24 February. International competitors here for the Vuelta Independencia will participate. 38 teams and 300 cyclists have registered.
Emilio Valdez, president of the National District Cycling Association (Asociación de Ciclismo del Distrito) made the announcement. The event has the backing of the Dominican Olympic Committee and the Dominican Cycling Federation.
The Santo Domingo Grand Prix road race will take place on the Avenida Quinto Centenario in the capital city over 4.5 km between Pedro Livio Cedeño and Av. Maximo Gomez and the Expreso V Centenario in the heart of Villa Juana section of the capital city. Registration is open until midday on Saturday and costs RD$500 and RD$300 for the recreational category.
