
Construction is underway at the Monte Grande dam that will warehouse waters of the Yaque del Sur River, control flooding, provide irrigation for farmers and hydroelectric generation. The Monte Grande dam is financed by a US$249.6 million loan from the Central American Integration Bank, as reported in Diario Libre. The reservoir will hold close to 99,000,000,000 gallons of freshwater.
Overall, the project is projected to assist 521,552 persons in the area of influence. The National Hydraulic Resources Institute (INDRHI) is managing the project. According to the press release, the project could well be finished this year.
