Marino Zapete defamation case to resume on 16 April 2020

Teófilo Andújar, judge of the Fourth Penal Hall, was named to hear the defamation case the sister of Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez has presented against the El Jarabe talk show host. Zapete is accused of defamation by Maybeth Rodriguez Sanchez, sister of the attorney general. The case is set to start on 16 April 2020.

Zapete had recused the previous judge after the later did not allow him to call several key witnesses to stand and limited the presence of the media at the hearing. Zapete appealed and the new judge will hear the case.

The defamation suit was placed after Zapete denounced that Maybeth Rodríguez had signed several contracts for over RD$1 billion for asphalting of roads in representation of the company Grupo Asimra. The documents are also signed by former Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo, who is now running for the Presidency on the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) ticket.
