The chief of the Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS), Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle arrived this Wednesday, 11 March 2020 to participate in the extraordinary municipal elections of this Sunday, 15 March 2020. Frei is a former President of Chile. He had headed the mission that observed the aborted 16 February election.
Before election day on Sunday, 15 March 2020, Frei and the mission will meet with electoral authorities, government representatives, political parties, candidates and civil society representatives to discuss preparations for the elections.
A separate OAS mission has been entrusted with investigating what happened that caused the e-voting system to crash.
The electoral campaign for the municipal elections ended on Wednesday, 11 March 2020.
