Santiago Mayor Abel Martínez today announced permits for marathons, shows is banned. Rehearsals and exercise in public places and parks are suspended. He ordered the shut down of movie houses, cinemas, bars and discos, and the celebration of flea markets and fairs. He announced gyms should put into place protocols to protect the health of their patrons.
Martínez, who won his bid for reelection in the 15 March municipal election, called for the Police to discourage gathering of people. He called for citizens to not board any vehicle with more than three passengers. The measures are in effect from 17 March to 31 March 2020. The mayor discouraged patrons from visiting Santiago’s food produce markets, the Hospedaje Yaque and the Mercado Modelo.
