
According to a guide prepared by labor lawyer Carlos Hernández for the Employers’ Confederation of the Dominican Republic (Copardom) if the government decrees a period of quarantine, employees could be sent home for up to three months without pay. The employees would keep their jobs and the non-work time would be accrued for vacation and severance calculations, even when the employees would not have been paid. The Labor Code contemplates provisions for fortuitous events, as the shutdown of business in case of Covid-19 virus.
