Slowdown benefits those who take the Metro

The director of the Santo Domingo Metro Office (Opret), Manuel Antonio Saleta, said on Thursday, 19 March 2020 that the mass transit service is being sanitized daily to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. He said frequent cleaning is now easier because the government told people to stay home.

“We have taken preventive measures to reduce the risk of disease spreading,” he said, announcing that alcohol dispensers are now available for use by passengers.

The director of the Opret reported that the flow of people has been sliding, which enables passengers to keep distance from each other. He said the decline in passenger riding is significant.

He also called on Metro users not to touch the entrance and exit doors, as train drivers have been instructed to open them automatically at all stops.

Manuel Antonio Saleta indicated that nine new cars have arrived and once in operation will allow for more efficiency and less conglomeration of people on the trains.
