Dominican Catholic Church: Bishop tests positive for Covid-19

The Dominican Episcopal Conference (CED) confirmed that Monsignor Fausto Ramón Mejía Vallejo, bishop of the diocese of San Francisco de Macorís, has tested positive for the coronavirus. In a statement, the Roman Catholic Church in the Dominican Republic said that Mejía Vallejo’s health was stable. The church urged that all Dominicans take preventive measures and stay at home.

San Francisco de Macorís is the capital of the province of Duarte, where the first case of local transmission was reported.
