The whale watching season begins on 15 January in Samana and some 25,000 people are expected to board whale-watching boats to see the enormous creatures leaping into the air. More than 50 boats will be taking tourists out to view the whales. The Navy and local business and ecology protection associations have been meeting to find ways to observe the whales without upsetting them. There is a real danger that they may decide to change the site of their annual holiday/sexual fling and go and mate in some other place.
