Frank R. Rainieri, president of the National Hotel & Restaurant Association, was honored as Marketing Executive of the Year 1995 by the Association of Marketing Executives of Santo Domingo, last week. In his acceptance speech, the president of the Punta Cana Group, pointed out that the tourist companies in the Dominican Republic understand the concept of economic globalization the world is going through and are adapting to the circumstances of the ever changing scene. For instance, the Dominican tourist industry reacted many years back by diversifying its market beyond that of the United States to Europe and Latin American, and is now seeking new markets in Russia and Japan.
Frank Rainieri said that “to market a tangible product is easier in real terms, but to market dreams which is what we do in the tourist industry, is sometimes difficult, especially when those dreams have to compete internationally. The country cannot depend solely upon itself, as a combination of factors and circumstances beyond our control also influence our destiny.” Frank Elías Rainieri Kuret, the son of Frank Rainieri, accepted the award on behalf of his father.
