German ambassador praises Dominican efforts

The German ambassador, Edmond Duckwitz, relayed his thanks to President Joaquin Balaguer for the solidarity and cooperation shown by the Dominican government, in the wake of the recent air crash – most of the 189 who perished were German tourists. He said that the event would not affect the growth of the tourist business between the two nations. “We have received great support from the Dominican government, are very pleased with its cooperation and the experts from Germany, for example, have been able to work much more rapidly because of the great assistance and the very good working conditions that have been provided by the Dominican authorities,” he said.

He added that the accident to the Boeing 757 operated by Alas Nacionales will not affect the tourist business between the Dominican Republic and Germany. “We are sure that the future of tourism between the Dominican Republic and Germany will continue to grow in the same manner that it has up to now and I do not feel the accident will have an adverse effect.”
