Tourist arrivals from the United States to the Caribbean until October 1995 grew by just over 5% when compared to the same period in 1994. The performance of the market was slightly better in the summer months than in the winter period, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s statistical report in January, 1996. Of the reporting countries, Puerto Rico (hotel registrations), Dominica, Montserrat and St. Lucia performed quite well recording increases of 10 percent or more. Significant increases were also recorded in Bahamas (4.9%), Bonaire (8.2%), Jamaica (4.9%) and Turks & Caicos Islands (5%). Islands reporting decreases were Antigua & Barbuda, Bermuda, Curacao, Grenada and Guadeloupe. The Dominican Republic is not included in the statistics because it is not a member of the organization.
