The Tourism Commission of the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD), created to evaluate Dominican tourism prior to the new government takeover on of 16 August, confirmed that it is still working on a report for the President-elect Leonel Fernández.
Businessman Marcelo Bermúdez and journalist Luís Simó, who are working with the commission, said that the report will include the status of the tourist industry, and the causes for. and possible solutions to the problems that are encountered. He said that when the report is concluded the party will make it public.
The investigation is being undertaken to determine the measures Leonel Fernández should take in the first 100 days of his government, and will serve as the foundation for the design of the National Plan for the Development of Tourism. Participating on the commission are, among others, historians, architects, ecologists, marketers, travel agents, and former tourist ministry officials.
