Two foreign residents of the Colonial city, a Spaniard, Antonio Corellano, and an Austrian, Alexander Minibaeck, have organized businesses of the Colonial City into an Asociación de Bares, Restaurantes y Afines de la Zona Colonial (Abrizco). The association hopes to be a vehicle for solving problems and act as a developer of original activities to bring new life to the Colonial City. Antonio Corellano owns the Casa de San Pedro, 155, Calle Mercedes, Tel. 221-8850, a restaurant, exhibition center, and gift shop.
Alexander Minibaeck is the owner of K-ramba Bar in Isabel La Catolica 1, Tel. 682-3537, a place for music and cold beer. Members include the Salon de Te, La Cocina, Hostal Nader, Meson de Bari, Casa Toledo, K-ramba, Restaurante Jardines de San Pedro, Chez Duke, Brut Marie, Cascabeles, La Briciola, Crazy Pub, Drake’s Pub and the Hostal Palacios.
They feel that the three principal problems are refuse disposal, security, electricity and parking. They also feel that more promotion is necessary.
The association hopes to organize a party on Wednesdays in the Colonial City. “The idea is to bring new life to the many popular venues in the area, such as the Plaza España, Plaza Colon, Atarazana, Ruinas de San Francisco, Fortaleza Ozama, San Nicolas de Bari, with activities for both children and adults – theater, merengue or whatever. This plan is scheduled to start at the end of August.
