Public Health Minister Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas confirmed in the press briefing on 31 March 2020 that a six-month old baby died of coronavirus in the Dominican Republic on Saturday, 28 March 2020. . The baby died at the Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital. Diario Libre reports the baby was from San Pedro de Macoris. It is not clear in which bulletin the death was included. The minister had been asked the question before in the daily press briefing but had not provided confirmation.
As reported, there is only one other case of a baby catching the virus, that of a baby in Chicago, Illinois.
