Raids to seize cleren and stop its manufacturing

The Ministry of Defense announced the seizing of thousands of liters of the rum-like drink, “cleren” for local sale from a “factory” in Santiago and from vendors in border towns. The beverage is irregularly brewed and has been known to cause deaths.

Recently, more than 30 persons have died in Santo Domingo province from drinking the clandestinely manufactured rum-like beverage. The intoxicated persons reportedly purchased the beverage at colmados, where the beverage sells for RD$100 the bottle.
