Cargo operations continue at Dominican ports

Gustavo Montalvo, the coordinator of the High Commission for the Prevention of the Coronavirus, says import and export of cargo continues. He said ships are arriving and departing from ports, operating under the preventive protocols of the Ministry of Public Health, including masks and gloves for port staff, as well as social distancing.

He said that this means that crews are not allowed to disembark. The ships need to expeditiously unload and load their cargo and depart. He also announced on 16 April 2020 that the government has cut red tape and certain port charges to facilitate the expediting the import and export business.

Montalvo said that the ships continue to import essential foods that continue to be sold at supermarkets and pharmacies and essential manufacture that has been authorized to continue open during the coronavirus epidemic.

Montalvo is also Minister of the Presidency.
