The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) reports the coronavirus epidemic has infected Najayo-Men’s Jail. “We report that to date, eight positive cases have been detected in the Najayo-Hombres penitentiary center,” said the PGR in a statement on 22 April 2020.
In the statement, the institution assures that it has immediately applied the established protocol, which consists of isolating these inmates and proceeding to perform an electrocardiogram to check their cardiovascular condition before beginning treatment for Covid-19.
With these confirmed cases in this penitentiary, there are now seven prisons that have inmates with coronavirus. The others are La Victoria in northern Santo Domingo, the Fortaleza in San Francisco de Macorís, the Juana Núñez in Salcedo; the Centro de Corrección y Rehabilitación (CCR) El Pinito in La Vega; the CCR Vista al Valle in San Francisco de Macorís; and the Centro de Atención Integral para la Persona Adolescente en Conflicto con la Ley Penal in Santiago. As of Monday, 21 April 2020, a total of 195 prisoners had tested positive in these prisons.
