DR’s Covid-19 patient zero is discharged

The Dominican Republic’s official patient zero, 62-year old Italian Claudio Pascualini, was finally discharged from the Ramón de Lara Hospital at the San Isidro Air Base outside Santo Domingo. He was the first in the country to test positive on 1 March 2020. He had been hospitalized for more than 40 days.

“Thank you, thank you very much,” he told the physicians and nurses that celebrated his discharge.

Pascualini arrived from Italy to La Romana International Airport for a stay at a resort in Dominicus on 22 February. Shortly after he suffered from fever and the resort management applied the corresponding protocol and notified the health authorities. At the time, the epidemic was escalating in Italy.

Shortly after, all flights from Milan, Italy were suspended.
