Presidency adds another coronavirus advisory committee

Amado Alejandro Baez, executive director for the Presidential Committee on Covid Response, announced the creating of the “International Council of Advisors of the Emergency and Health Management Committee for the Combat of Covid-19.” The new entity seeks to promote the exchange of experiences, updates of protocols, information, as well as case studies, scientific and epidemiological monitoring, through meetings with various world-renowned institutions.

This network of academics and volunteers for advice and innovation is made up of representatives from the World Association of Emergency and Disaster Medicine, the Asociación Salvadoreña de Emergencias, the NGO Team Rubicon, and for universities, the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Medical College of Georgia, the Augusta University School of Research and Medical Center in Georgia, and Harvard University in the United States and the Universidad de Barcelona in Spain,

Báez said that the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA) and the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU) are joining the new advisory initiative.

The members of the Presidential Committee on Covid Response are Public Health Minister Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas; Chanel Rosa Chupani, director of the National Health Service (SNS); Brigadier General Juan Manuel Méndez García, director of the Center for Emergency Operations (COE); Jorge Marte Báez, medical advisor to the Executive Branch; Dr. José R. Yunén, a physician certified in internal medicine, infectious disease, critical and neuro-intensive medicine, and Patricia León, executive director of Laboratorios Referencia, a leading local laboratory.

This committee was created by President Danilo Medina to guarantee the effective coordination of the different institutions that watch over public health and to optimize the effectiveness of the measures taken by the Dominican state to confront the pandemic.
