Has the Covid-19 virus reached a plateau?

The 29 April 2020 Diario Libre editorial remarks the Covid-19 disease seems to have reached a plateau. The editorial observes that the biggest caveat is the limited testing that has been done. Nevertheless, the editorial points out that since 4 April the number of cases of Covid-19 has averaged 197 cases per day.

The editorialist concludes that the good news is that the expansion of the coronavirus here does not show the same aggressiveness as in other countries. For yet unknown reasons, the local evolution of the disease has not been as bad in this country, writes the editorialist, pointing out the population should not lower its guard, but the observation can serve to calm people’s anxiety.

But, the editorialist warns: “Evidently, episodes such as what happened in Puerto Plata and several other social gatherings, including the celebration of birthday parties, have served to spread the disease, and have to be avoided to not complicate the situation.” The editorial calls for continued national solidarity.
