Education Minister Antonio Peña Mirabal told journalist Alicia Ortega that the ministry is considering passing all students. The most advanced proposition is that students who have a grade average of 70% as of the last day of school on 12 March 2020 get a simple pass grade. Those below this average get a conditional pass grade, and need to complete remedial coursework, in the form of a project or homework, to pass. The National Education Council has yet to decide.
Peña Mirabal noted that students had already completed 70% of the curriculum at the time of the school shut down for the 15 March municipal election, and then for the coronavirus epidemic. He said the ministry is contemplating opening school as early as the first week in August. The plan is for students to spend the first month in school reviewing materials that were not covered in the last semester of the previous school year.
