The executive director of the non-partisan civic movement Citizen Participation, Carlos Pimentel, said that the irregularities reported in the procurement of temperature-measuring devices by the Ministry of Defense (MIDE) are not simple administrative errors.
He also described the simple announced cancellation of the MIDE-MAE-PEEEN-2020-0008 purchase procedure as unacceptable, saying the contracting was loaded with irregularities and violations to the law.
“It is unacceptable that the Ministry of Defense, after the journalistic investigation, suspends the process and wants to reduce the findings to simple administrative errors,” said Pimentel. He criticized the leniency of the Procurement Agency (Direccion de Contrataciones Públicas) in allowing the transaction, and that it had to be investigative journalist Nuria Piera who called the nation’s attention to the irregularities.
