Dominican Republic – Coronavirus Covid-19: Bulletin #53/10 May 2020

According to Coronavirus Bulletin #53 of the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 10,634 confirmed cases, 287 new confirmed cases and 393 deaths. There are 1,975 patients hospitalized, including 131 persons in intensive care units, and of these, 62 are on ventilators. There were five new confirmed Covid-19 deaths nationwide.

Bulletin #53 carries statistics as of Sunday, 10 May 2020 at 6pm. The tally includes the results from 44,287 PCR diagnostic tests. This is an additional 1,672 for the day. The statistical report does not include results from rapid response blood antibody tests or patients diagnosed with tomography or other means. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.

As of Sunday, 10 May 2020 at 6pm, the most confirmed PCR cases continue to be reported in the National District and Santo Domingo Province (Greater Santo Domingo), Santiago, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), La Vega, Duarte, San Cristóbal, Espaillat (Moca), Puerto Plata, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao) and La Romana and Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí) and Hermanas Mirabal, all with 200 or more cases.

The largest increases in confirmed cases were reported for Santo Domingo province (79), the National District (79), Espaillat / Moca (32), Santiago (29), San Cristóbal (24), Monseñor Nouel / Bonao (12), Puerto Plata (5), Valverde (4), Azua (3), La Vega (3), San Juan de la Maguana (3), Peravia (2), San Pedro de Macorís (2), Sánchez Ramírez / Cotuí (2) and María Trinidad Sánchez / Nagua (2). There was only 1 or no confirmed cases in the remaining 17 provinces.

According to Bulletin #53, the evolution of the health crisis nationwide is:

National District: 2,621 cases, 79 new cases, 55 deaths, including 1 new death

Santo Domingo province: 2,272 cases, 79 new cases, 63 deaths

Santiago: 1,145 cases, 29 new cases, 62 deaths, including 2 new deaths

Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís): 737 cases, 1 new case, 78 deaths

La Vega: 745 cases, 3 new cases, 22 deaths

San Cristóbal: 444 cases, 47 new cases, 14 deaths

Espaillat (Moca, Gaspar Hernández): 404 cases, 32 new cases, 8 deaths

Puerto Plata: 290 cases, 5 new cases, 18 deaths

Monseñor Nouel (Bonao): 262 cases, 12 new cases, 4 deaths

La Romana: 259 cases, 7 deaths

Hermanas Mirabal / Salcedo: 224 cases, 1 new case, 14 deaths

Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí): 219 cases, 2 new cases, 6 deaths

La Altagracia (Higuey, Verón, Punta Cana): 167 cases, 1 new case, 1 death

Azua: 119 cases, 3 new cases, 2 deaths

María Trinidad Sánchez / Nagua: 113 cases, 2 new cases, 4 deaths

San Pedro de Macorís: 93 cases, 2 new cases, 11 deaths

San Juan de la Maguana: 89 cases, 3 new cases, 3 deaths

Peravia: 78 cases, 2 new cases, 2 deaths, 1 new death

Barahona: 69 cases, 1 death

Valverde: 65 cases, 4 deaths

Santiago Rodríguez: 42 cases, 1 new case, 1 death

Monte Plata: 28 cases, 6 deaths

Samaná: 28 cases, 1 death

Montecristi: 27 cases

San José de Ocoa: 16 cases, 2 deaths

El Seibo: 14 cases

Hato Mayor: 13 cases, 2 deaths

Elías Piña: 7 cases

Baoruco: 6 cases, 1 new case

Dajabón: 6 cases

Pedernales: 5 cases

Independencia: 3 cases, 1 new case, 1 death

Haiti reports 182 confirmed cases and 15 deaths as of 9 May 2020.

In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is ranked 9th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Canada, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Chile and Colombia. In the Caribbean and Central America, the Dominican Republic has the most confirmed cases.
