According to Coronavirus Bulletin #60 of the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 12,725 confirmed cases, 411 new confirmed cases and 434 deaths, including 6 new deaths. There are 2,040 patients are hospitalized, including 142 patients in intensive care units. The results are from 55,469 PCR diagnostic tests.

The Pan American Health Organization says that the country needs to be able to show consistency in testing before easing activity restrictions.
The statistical reports do not include results from rapid response blood antibody tests or patients diagnosed with tomography or other means. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.
As of Sunday, 17 May 2020 at 6pm, the most confirmed cases continue to be reported in the National District and Santo Domingo Province, Santiago, La Vega, Duarte, San Cristobal, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, La Romana, Hermanas Mirabal, and Sánchez Ramírez. All other provinces report 200 or less cases.
The largest increases in confirmed cases were reported for Santo Domingo province (134), San Cristóbal (38), the National District (102), La Romana (48), La Vega (29), San Cristóbal (22), Santiago (20), Altagracia (9), Barahona (7), Peravia (7), Puerto Plata (6), Azua (5), Duarte (4), Espaillat / Moca (3), Bahoruco (2), Monseñor Nouel / Bonao (4), Azua (3), Hermanas Mirabal (3), María Trinidad Sánchez / Nagua (2), San Juan de la Maguana (2), San Pedro de Macorís (2), Valverde (2) and Santiago Rodríguez (2). The Ministry of Public Health reports 1 or less confirmed cases in 14 other provinces.

In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is ranked 9th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Canada, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Chile and Colombia. In the Caribbean and Central America, the Dominican Republic has the most confirmed cases.
