Government authorizes all malls to open for Mother’s Day

The coordinator for the High Commission for the Prevention of Coronavirus in the Dominican Republic, Presidency Minister Gustavo Montalvo announced on Monday, 25 May 2020 that all stores in shopping centers are authorized to open. The stores need to comply with Covid-19 health protocols. Addressing the nation on TV from the Presidential Palace, Montalvo explained the announcement is to make it easier for people to buy gifts for Mother’s Day that in the Dominican Republic falls on Sunday, 31 May this year. He said the measure seeks to avoid agglomerations for shopping on Saturday and Sunday.

“I would like to remind you that shops must comply with hygiene and physical distance measures, in addition to the maximum number of workers allowed in this first phase of the easing of restrictions,” he highlighted. He said that the food and recreation areas of the malls will remain closed to avoid crowding of people.
