Acento publishes its look into where Luis Abinader gets his wealth from

The online news portal shares insights into the background of Luis Abinader, presidential candidate for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). Centro Economico Cibao, Mark Penn, Gallup and Greenberg, the leading polls, all show he is likely to win the 5 July 2020 presidential election.

While he is the son of a former senator for Santiago and several time government minister, José Rafael Abinader Wassaff, who died on 4 November 2018, Luis Abinader has never held a position in government. The presidential candidate said that early on, his father also established a family rule to stay. Family enterprises should stay clear from government procurement.

Acento has compiled information on his participation in family businesses over the years. He has had an active role in the businesses that include the Universidad Dominicana O&M in Santo Domingo and the Cementos Santo Domingo that are still in operation. In the 80s and 90s, he was active in tourism when the family invested in the Sol de Plata tourism ventures in Puerto Plata and Bavaro. These closed in 2009.
