Dominican Republic – Coronavirus Covid-19: Bulletin #76/2 June 2020

According to Coronavirus Bulletin #76 of the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 18,040 confirmed cases, 288 new confirmed cases and 516 deaths, including one new death in San Cristóbal only. 2,054 patients are hospitalized. 110 patients are in intensive care units. The results are from 86,285 PCR diagnostic tests.

The Pan American Health Organization says that the country needs to continue to show consistency in testing before further easing activity restrictions. In the past month, the country has stepped up the number of diagnostic tests. The average of PCR diagnostic tests for the past 14 days is now 1,943. The numbers of diagnostic tests carried out over the past 14 days are: 1,647 (Bulletin #76), 1,194 (Bulletin #75), 1,797 (Bulletin #74), 2,275 (Bulletin # 73) 2,242 (Bulletin #72), 3,809 (Bulletin #71), 2,149 (Bulletin #70), 1,364 (Bulletin #69), 1,668 (Bulletin #68), 2,585 (Bulletin #67), 4,025 (Bulletin #66), 1,354 (Bulletin #65), 1,619 (Bulletin #64), 2,882 (Bulletin #63), 2,819 (Bulletin #62).

The statistical reports do not include rapid response blood antibody tests or patients diagnosed with tomography or other means. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.

As of Tuesday, 2 June 2020 at 6pm, the most confirmed cases continue to be reported in urban areas. Greater Santo Domingo (the National District and Santo Domingo province) has 53% of cases, or 9,420 confirmed cases of the 18,040 total confirmed cases. Santiago, San Cristobal, La Vega, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), Espaillat, La Romana, La Altagracia (Higuey, Verón, Punta Cana), Puerto Plata, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), Azua, Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí) and Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo) are provinces that have 200 or more cases.

The most new cases reported for the 2 June deadline are: Santo Domingo Province (62), National District (70), Santiago (13), La Altagracia (11), La Romana (10), San Cristóbal (13), La Vega (5), Azua (4), Puerto Plata (3), La Vega (5), Barahona (4), Duarte (3), María Trinidad Sánchez (3) and Valverde (3), San Juan de la Maguana (2), San Pedro de Macoris (2). The Ministry of Public Health reports one or less confirmed cases in 21 of 31 provinces and the National District.

Haiti reports 2,507 confirmed cases and 48 deaths as of 1 June 2020.

In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is ranked 10th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Peru, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Argentina.
