According to Coronavirus Bulletin #83 of the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 20,808 confirmed cases, 393 new confirmed cases and 550 deaths, including 6 new deaths, 5 in Greater Santo Domingo and one in San Cristóbal. 2,609 patients are hospitalized. Of these, 117 patients are in intensive care units. The results are from 100,035 PCR diagnostic tests. The number of coronavirus-related deaths continues relatively low, averaging around 6 over the past 14 days.

The Pan American Health Organization says that the country needs to continue to show consistency in testing before further easing activity restrictions. In the past month, the country has stepped up the number of diagnostic tests. The growth in number of cases has been consistent, yet slow as revealed by the limited PCR tests carried out. The average per day of PCR diagnostic tests for the past 14 days is now 2,039. The numbers of diagnostic tests carried out over the past 14 days [the difference between the PCR tests reported in the past bulletin] are: 1,935 (Bulletin #83), 1,060 (Bulletin #82), 2,529 (Bulletin #81), 2,351 (Bulletin #80), 2,079 (Bulletin #79), 2,085 (Bulletin #78), 1,771 (Bulletin #77), 1,647 (Bulletin #76), 1,194 (Bulletin #75), 1,797 (Bulletin #74), 2,275 (Bulletin # 73) 2,242 (Bulletin #72), 3,809 (Bulletin #71), 2,149 (Bulletin #70), 1,364 (Bulletin #69).
The statistical reports do not include rapid response blood antibody tests or patients diagnosed with tomography or other means. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.
As of Tuesday, 9 June 2020 at 6pm, the most confirmed cases continue to be reported in urban areas. Greater Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo province and the National District) has 52.7% of the 20,808 total confirmed cases. Santiago, San Cristobal, La Vega, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), Espaillat, La Romana, La Altagracia (Higuey, Verón, Punta Cana), Puerto Plata, Azua, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), Barahona, Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí) and Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo) are provinces that have 200 or more cases.
The most new cases reported for the 9 June deadline are: Santo Domingo Province (179), National District (94), Santiago (17), San Cristóbal (12), La Altagracia (14), Duarte (8), San Juan de la Maguana (6), Monte Plata (4), San Pedro de Macoris (3), Peravia (3), La Vega (2), La Romana (2), Azua (4), El Seibo (3), La Vega (2) and Elías Piña (2). The Ministry of Public Health reports one or no confirmed cases in 16 of 31 provinces and the National District.
